I was able to spend the day with my son and his friend at a semi-local amusement park called Kings Island this past weekend (my role was to watch the backpacks, which is why I had ample time to write this post). It was fun, but things have changed since I was a kid. I'm pretty sure that 30+ years ago when my parents brought me to that same park, they could walk up to a food stand and say, "One pretzel please”, to which the pretzel purveyor would reply, “Sure, that'll be three dollars.”
And that would be the end of it.
Now everything is:
“I'd like a pretzel please.”
“Sure thing. Do you have the premium pretzel pass?”
“I don't think so. What is that?”
“Well, for $28, your first pretzel is included, and each additional pretzel after today, purchased using our app, is 15% off, every Wednesday after 7 pm for the rest of the season, except during Oktoberfest, which is in August.”
“I would actually just like to buy a single pretzel, if possible.”
“Sure thing, that’s $31.99.”
“But that’s more than the pretzel pass.”
“Yes sir.”
“Ok, I’ll take the pretzel pass, I guess. Can I also have cheese?”
“Are you a member of our Cheddar Champions Guild?”
“Never mind.”
Thanks for reading! Would love to hear your amusement park experiences, either current or bygone. Simply reply to this message.
So, a few things come to mind:
-Great post
-I have friends who are Disney people and a couple who are “Disney travel agents” (or something like that - they help people make the most of their Disney excursions
-Reading this, even with the well-received advice to just enjoy the moment, confirmed that I will never be a Disney parks person. FOMO in a place where you can only see and do a fraction of what’s on offer flares up something fierce😀
-The latter is just me and could just as easily be about me not being a “Saturday Donut shop person.
Wrote about mine last summer!
